The History of our Firm


George A. Affeldt was a 1909 graduate of the University of Wisconsin Law School, admitted to the State Bar of Wisconsin in 1909.  He founded the firm in downtown Milwaukee in 1909 where he practiced until his death in 1952. He had a true general practice and handled all matters from complicated trials to drafting Wills and Contracts and everything in between. He was the Milwaukee Bar Association President in 1931. He argued 47 cases in the Wisconsin Supreme Court. He was the President of the State Board of Bar Commissioners at the time of his death, as well as a Court Commissioner from 1941 until the time of his death.
George R. Affeldt was a 1948 graduate of the University of Wisconsin Law School; admitted to the State Bar of Wisconsin in 1948 and joined his father’s firm in 1948. He served as the Milwaukee Bar Association President in 1969.  While attending the University, he was a member of the University of Wisconsin-Madison 1941 NCAA Basketball Championship Team. He served as the 1977-78 president of the Wisconsin Alumni Association, a director of the UW Foundation, a representative on the UW Athletic Board, and a member of its Bascom Hill Society.  In 1986 he directed the firms move from its downtown Milwaukee location to its present office in West Allis, where he practiced until his death in 2001.

David A. Affeldt

David is a 1979 graduate of the University of Wisconsin Law School; admitted to the State Bar of Wisconsin in 1979.


David concentrates his practice in the areas of Estate Planning, Trust Administration, Probate, Real Estate,  Corporate Law and Small Business Representation.

David was awarded the 2020 Super Lawyers Award and the 2018 Five Star Investment Professional Award for providing our clients with exceptional services to meet their legal needs.

Steven A. Affeldt

Steven is a 1983 graduate of Valparaiso University School of Law; admitted to the State Bar of Wisconsin in 1983. 


Steven concentrates his practice in the areas of Estate Planning, Elder Law, Trust Administration,  Probate, and Real Estate.

John A. Affeldt

John is a 1985 graduate of the University of Wisconsin Law School; admitted to the State Bar of Wisconsin in 1985.


John concentrates his practice in the areas of Guardianship, Estate Planning, Trust Administration, and Probate.

Nathan W. Eckley

Nathan is a 2003 graduate of The John Marshall Law School - Chicago; admitted to the State Bar of Illinois in 2003 and the  State Bar of Wisconsin in 2006.


Nathan concentrates his practice in the areas of Estate Planning, Trust Administration, Probate, Real Estate, Corporate Law and Small Business Representation.

As you may know, our law firm has been owned and operated by the Affeldt family since its founding by George A. Affeldt in 1909. Three generations of the Affeldt family have had the privilege of resolving the local community’s legal issues and serving its best interests. We are proud to announce that in our 112th year, Nathan W. Eckley, whom you may already know or have worked with, has become a Partner. Nathan, a Missouri native and a 2003 John Marshall Law School graduate, joined our firm as an Associate in early 2014 and shares our passion for creating long-term relationships and best-practice solutions for our clients, their families, and their businesses. Nathan is licensed to practice law in Wisconsin and Illinois and is therefore able to assist our clients who reside or do business in either State. We welcome you to introduce yourself and meet Nathan when you next visit our firm. Nathan’s promotion to Partner allows for David and Steven to primarily focus on serving their existing clients. As we look to the future, new client referrals will most likely be handled by either Nathan or John Affeldt. Between all four Partners, we have over 131 years of legal experience, which means our firm and expertise has become increasingly specialized.
