The impact of COVID-19 on our firm
- updated as of March 23, 2020
Due to the severity of the circumstances surrounding the coronavirus (COVID-19) and in support of the "Safer at Home" order, our office is now closed until April 6, 2020.
We hope you understand that we are taking every step we can to prevent any delays in servicing your needs while trying to mitigate the risks of exposing COVID-19 to our clients, our employees and the wider population. During our closure, we will continue to monitor our voicemails and inboxes, and at all times, we will try to respond to you as soon as practicable. If our office is responsible for preparing your tax return, please be advised that we will resume with the preparation of your return upon our office reopening for business.
Please be advised that the IRS recently announced that the 2019 tax filing deadline and payment deadline has been moved from April 15, 2020, to July 15, 2020. Additionally, the first and second quarter estimated tax payments are now due on July 15, 2020. All taxpayers will have additional time to file and make payments without incurring interest and penalties. The State of Wisconsin implemented the same deadlines for filings, payments, and estimated payments.
We will continue to closely follow local and national recommendations to help combat the spread of COVID-19. We are committed to putting the safety and wellbeing of our clients, our employees and our wider community first. We look forward to continuing to provide you with exceptional legal services and reopening our office soon.
COVID-19 and the importance of your estate plan
Witnessing the impact of COVID-19 provides us all with the opportunity to reflect on our economic wellbeing and most importantly, the health of ourselves, our family and friends and our community.
Many of you may be self-isolating as much as possible to protect your community. We suggest that during this time you also consider how you may best protect yourself and your family through your estate plan. Having an estate plan in place which appropriately reflects yours and your family’s wishes for your medical care and a plan for your financial assets is more important than ever.
If you have an estate plan in place, please carefully review your plan to make sure no updates or revisions are required. If you would like our office to review your estate plan on your behalf, please contact us.
If you do not have an estate plan in place, please contact our office so we may advise you appropriately on the best way to protect yours and your family’s health and economic wellbeing.
